Here are some facts about Wonder Woods blinds and shutters that may help you if you are looking for environmentally friendly products. First and foremost, we are a small manufacturer and as such, our carbon footprint is inherently smaller.

The wood in our blinds and shutters is a renewable resource.

The wood, headrail and components can all be recycled. Wood is biodegradable.

We buy our slats and shutters from distributors and mills in the US, minimizing wasteful shipping.

All of our products can be made with water based finishes (we will be switching over fully to this process in 2009). Material safety data sheets these finishes are available here (links needed). These finishes are appropriate for those who are chemically sensitive. They offer great UV and moisture protection.

Blinds insulate your home, reducing solar heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter.

They also protect the flooring and furnishings in your home, which means you can enjoy them for a very long time- and they won’t end up in the landfill!

Packaging is made from recycled products, and can itself be recycled. We don’t use cardboard boxes on items we deliver or install locally.

Our process is transparent. If you want to visit our factory, you are more than welcome (but please call first, so we can vacuum the front office)

Our wood blinds can be ordered with motorized controls to open and close the shades, and can be connected to a home automation system. As a result, the shades can be used to maximize solar heating, optimize daylight, and minimize heat loss to the outside.

We use domestic basswood for our blinds, and poplar for our shutters. Basswood and poplar are recyclable, biodegradable and renewable. Domestic wood requires less transportation versus wood originating in Asia.

All LEED rating point references are suggested applications of Wonder Woods products to the LEED rating system.

LEED applicants should use their own objective determinations of product attributes for LEED certification purposes.
